news.bbc.co.uk — Wow, this is an amazing pledge. Richard Branson is going to donate 100% of profits from the travel companies in the Virgin Group (Virgin Atlantic, Virgin Trains etc.) over the next 10 years to help fight global warming. That is a contribution worth $3billion!

nice. even rich people take action when their lives and health are at stake. i've always liked him. never was one to hide in a hole with his money. at least he's trying to enjoy life in a fruitful way.

isn't it about time you yanks realised that the rest of the world isn't split into republicans and democrats. stop trying to put your labels on people from different cultures.

@pilot3033Where do you think the electricity for the railways comes from?

I've gotta believe that there is a more worthy use for 3 billion. The global warming thing is partly his fault anyway for using the same gas guzzling mass transports as everyone else... except he makes money with it. 3 billion could help cure aids or cancer or something. I think it's all publicity garbage.

Facetiousness doesn't translate well online. Choose a more obvious form of irony like sarcasm or satire.

It's brilliant. The private sector needs to kick start this process and this type of gargantuan commitment of capital will help to awaken governments idling away on a critical issue. Branson greatly outstyles Gates, and his $3bn trumps Buffets $37Bn donation to Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation because of the laser focus on saving the planet. I think the point that he's creating the problem is stupid. Demand makes the supply of transportation by cars, airplanes and trains a (mostly) profitable business. His entrepreneurship is admirable and when you spend time with Branson it's obvious as to his sincerity in his philanthropy for educational programs to fight AIDS in Africa and now attacking global warming head on.

Does anyone have Sir Richards contact detailsHere in New Zealand we're trying to stop a coal fired power station from going ahead and it looks as if this is just the sort of project he has in mind.
