browndailyherald.com — The smallest state in the Union is itching to go unwired in a big way. "The network will be built on a WiMAX transport core with WiFi technology at the consumer interface edge." The first antenna goes up this week. Quite an impressive achievement, in spite of the fact that it probably won't be free.

Here's the plan, Get one of those new "easy setup" linksys routers, cram an army grade amplifier to that antenna, and irradiate everyone with precious internet goodness.

Why not have it geared for public access instead of just catering to "businesses and organizations"?, and make it FREE !!! Information technology is meant to be free for all ! {signed eternal optimist/dreamer}[see here for bridge links]

@Phantom:Actually, as a Rhode Islander, you should know that "Rhode Island" is, in fact, an island. The full name of the state is "Rhode Island and Providence Plantations". "Rhode Island" is original name of the chunk of rock that Newport, Middletown, and Portsmouth now sit on... "Providence Plantations" is the rest of it.Humorous aside: In the mid-80's, the State Tourism Board held a competition/vote to pick a new promo tagline. The winner: "Rhode Island: Mobsters and Lobsters". Unsurprisingly, they decided to stick with the old tag: "Rhode Island: The Biggest Little State in the Union".

I don't think becoming the first wireless state should apply to a state you can hold your breath Thu.
