The question is; What would it take to make this a reality in today's political environment? The resistance (from obvious quarters) would be extremely fierce and, for that matter, would be resisted by politicians across the board who, almost to a person, benefit heavily from the current situation. It would take an extremely motivated and determined populace backing this in order to convince politicians that they would suffer in the political arena by ignoring their will. Seems unlikely to happen any time in the near future, as I see it, despite the benefits and reform it would bring to the established way of things.

The resistance would likely resemble a Kamikaze attack on all sides, if battle were joined as such. So to avoid a bloody and expensive fight, the key would be to make the Amendment part of a framework package that provides a balancing force to the loss of "true personhood". No one wants a lengthy and expensive fight to the death. One incentive that immediately comes to mind is, of course, the tax structure. What benefit could be gained for "artificial personhood?" Perhaps the incentive could be benefits accorded to "B" Corporation status. A B Corporation is not a government structure, but a voluntary corporate framework aimed towards encouraging social good. Could these principals be used to reward a return to "artificial person?" See http://www.worldchanging.com/archives/008059.html for more on the B Corporation outlook. It's unfortunately true that cash will have to be strong part of the incentive. But there are other forces to be used for leverage.
