heraldnet.com — The most recent version, Desktop 3, released last winter, was maddeningly close to being very cool. It struck me that how Google addressed its shortcomings in Desktop 4 would say something about the maturity of the company.

I agree with ya. i still update when the security updates are released, but i have had computers refuse to boot after some of the updates. it's a real pain in the ass to have to reformat and start over because of a windows update... don't think it doesn't happen.

I love Google Desktop, but how do I get rid of all this gadget stuff? I like the idea behind Konfabulator / Dashboard / Whatever, but every time I install one of them, I find that I don't really use it very much. All I really want is the searching capabilities.I know how to get rid of the sidebar, but how do you get rid of the gadgets button?
