I'd just like to throw out the info on how MS makes an OS for those who might not understand. Ask an MS MVP if you don't believe me.They build on the last OS choosing parts to replace, parts to improve and parts to discontinue. Because they have to worry about changing the tables on so many computers that cover such a broad spectrum they can't just change everything so they take out what is really outdated as to not screw over old computers. They improve or replace the rest. A service pack is usually large chunks of features that took longer or needed more user tested data in order to finish. But because of the increasing size of beta testing these are not the same anymore and are now more security oriented. Windows 7 has just as much of Vista in it as Vista had XP and XP had windows ME. They are all vastly different enough but alike enough to not screw people over. They don't for instance just decide to exclude you because your processor is 2 years old R.I.P power PC.
Ah no. Only the ignorant seem to call it a big service pack. Go read up on what was added here:<a class="user" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Features_new_to_Windows_7" rel="nofollow">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Features_new_to_Windo ...</a>When you have to rewrite parts of the OS including being able to work with cpu's that are up to 256 cores, it's never a service pack. A service pack merely provides fixes against the existing code base without having to rewrite that code base. Calling it a service pack only shows in your justification to try to validate your opinion. You can't use facts to validate it after all. So you must use FUD.
It looks like MS might have finally found something to replace the venerable XP. But after the Vista debacle I'm leery of MS. My next upgrade for my personal machine will run OS-X. Granted for my work purposes I'll have to deal with Windows 7.
