technology.timesonline.co.uk — It appears a lot of the reason for the face(book)lift of the site was in order to push adverts at users more effectively. "It's really about using the functionality of the site to help the brand come up with an ad that is more immersive, and entertaining," Spencer Hyman, the chief operating officer of Last.fm.

Firefox doesn't remove any ad by itself. However you can use the excellent plugin adblock plus:https://addons.mozilla.org/fr/firefox/addon/1865

Another reason for the facebook facelift was probably so they can add facebook-style applications...http://digg.com/music/Facebook_style_Applications_ ...

Who said websites don't need money?, WHO?? You made a logical fallacy, the article just points out that the logic behind the facelift was mainly about a new ad strategy, not that Last.fm are f**king greedy bastards...Last.fm is commercial website but it's not a reason to completly overlook the userbase's will, the essence/origin of audiscrobbler that is music data charts, while people have been loyal to site site by submitting all their music to it.You know what, I would even call it a bad marketing strategy. Given the amount of reaction and hostility I strongly believe the 'last.fm case' will make e-marketing history in bad handling webdesign change and neglecting the site's identity. But please, don't rant with easy arguments "it's a capitalist world", "companies need to make money"..
