What I think is the most interesting is that dogs can laugh (ie. they understand humor). We laug for numerous reasons (something is funny, defense mecanisms, we're happy, sarcasm, etc.) But why do they laugh?
I'd rather have a scientist who schooled in *human* medicine than *vetrinary* medicine working on my health care, thank you very much. For that matter, why would someone sit on thier ass complaining about it when THEY should be out finding a cure for it!!
I've known for years that dogs laugh. Ever since once, in a playful mood, I jumped down onto th back porch in front of him not knowing it was completely (and uniformly) iced over. I landed, kicked and flailed in all directions trying to establish a balance, then fell on my ass. When I looked up at him, I KNEW he was laughing at me. The expression, the eyes. No doubt the dog was laughing at me. Now I have the proof I needed to quell skeptical friends.
well it makes sense because supposedly dogs learn to bark from imitating their parents who imitated their parents who imitated their parents who imitated their parents who imitated their parents who imitated their parents who imitated humans
Why are they calling it laughing? They're saying it makes this noise that calms other dogs. And then they're conflating that claim (which is supported by evidence) with the claim "dogs laugh." Probably just to generate attention.
Sure, dogs laugh, but only at lowbrow stuff. A little song, a little dance, a little seltzer down your pants. No appreciation at all for witty banter. Philistines.

I thought that tail wagging was a form of laughter.

After hearing the clip, I recognize the sound. It's the same sound my Italian Greyhound makes when we play!
