You can't spit in any direction in Georgia without hitting a Church. It's just sad. The faces people make when you say that you have no religion are mind boggling.

New ideas? New? These ideas have been around for thousands of years and they haven't become any more convincing. Therefore, I don't listen to such bulls**t. Simple as that.

I find arrogant presumptions of moral and mental superiority offensive in any guise - and further observe that those who need to rely on the thoughts of others to such an extent as illustrated probably picked their faith, or lack their of, rather at random, or in order to fit in. You see, moral superiority and social camouflage are not the same things, because the morally superior person will from time to time have to do something or say something that will make them conspicuous - such as pointing out something that is actually *immoral* as opposed to *locally unpopular.*

"I had no idea there were adults that genuinely thought this might be as likely as his non-existence."Sigh. You just don't get it, do you?"It has everything to do with this discussion because you always increase your odds of picking the one correct door if you switch to another unopened door each time one of the other possibilities is shown to be bogus."You've misapplied the pigeonhole principle. The reason the situation demonstrated in the game show problem exists is due to the fact that their is a finite set of doors and therefore a discrete set of options from which to choose. Yes, the probability changes, but only because there are only 2 possible "bad" doors after one is opened. If there were an uncountable number of options (and therefore continuum along which one could make a choice) the probability would not change. The "choice" one makes when deciding if something exists, is to select an entity from the set of all things that exist. The set of all things that exist might be finite and countable (in which case, identifying entities in the set would indeed result in a similar situation), but that's speculation at best, and if I had to guess (or more time to devote to thinking over it) I would probably think the set is neither nor countable.

@crimeodial - That's not what religion means. It comes from the Latin "religare" which means "to bind" or "to bind together." So, for something to be religion, it at least has to involve some sort of organized community (i.e.: a group of people who are bound together by a common set of values). It doesn't necessarily have to revolve around a god, and there are some religions that are atheistic, but to say that atheism is a religion implies that there is some kind of organized "Church of Atheism" or something. And that's simply not the case.

well the research INcluded 15% atheists.. Sorry that atheists have no faith.. yet i bet ya 90% when facing their own death begin to pray and have others praying for them.. this is very common... per past ministers, pastors, church leaders in 2007 poll ....

atheism = a-theism = without godjust as asexual means without sex.

Nice of you to omit half the definition.1.

I didn't say 'fastest growing'. I said religion is still growing rather than... well going extinct like you'd expect.

At least atheist's (as a group) don't have a history of burning, crucifying, hanging or beheading people.
