thinkprogress.org — On Feb. 9, 2006, House Homeland Security Chairman Peter King (R-NY) spoke at the Merrick Jewish Center. King told his constituents that “the situation is more stable than you think.” He cited “bumper to bumper traffic,” shopping centers, restaurants, vendors, and hotels to conclude that being in Baghdad is "like being in Manhattan." Quote from link below - "The Green Zone is certainly a world unto itself. Women in shorts and T shirts jog down broad avenues, and the Pizza Inn does a brisk business from the parking lot of the heavily fortified U.S. Embassy. Near the Green Zone Bazaar, Iraqi kids hawk pornographic DVDs to soldiers. Sheik Fuad Rashid, the U.S.-appointed imam of the local mosque, dresses like a nun, dyes his hair platinum blond and claims that Mary Mother of Jesus appeared to him in a vision (hence the getup). On any given night, residents can listen to karaoke, play badminton or frequent one of several rowdy bars, including an invitation-only speakeasy run by the CIA. At the Green Zone Cafe—where contractors toting 9mm pistols smoke hookahs while an Iraqi drummer provides entertainment—a sign on the door warns customers to empty their weapons before consuming alcohol."<a class="user" href="http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5973273/site/newsweek/">http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5973273/site/newsweek/</a>I might agree that the Green Zone area of Baghdad is similar to Manhattan. This is not indicative of the surrounding area, however. How can someone enter this area and assume the rest of the city and country are similar?

@MysticSavage - Are you even from the NYC area? I never see kids cleaning windshields; they're too busy playing like kids do. It's only once you go north and east of midtown Manhattan that the bums start to frequently appear.

It's important to note that thinkprogress is a George Soros funded left wing media-blitz organization... for the record.
