thinkprogress.org — On Fox News yesterday, Rep. Roy Blunt (R-MO) said "a bigger story is that so much of the media and I don’t put Fox News in this category has constantly talked down this economy." "Believe me, if we were in the mid-90s, Bill Clinton was president," Blunt said, "I am convinced there would be a totally different national media coverage..."

I don't have any problems with a "moral Majority" party, but you have to live up to the billing. Mark Foley, Enron goons, Hannity and others represent anything but conservative principles. As a paleolibertarian myself, I stand in horror to see what they've done in the name of "conservatism". Now whenever truly conservative platforms will be pushed in the future, the "C" word will be linked with the neoconmen. What a shame. Intellectuals on the right are going to have a hard couple of years ahead of them. It is a shame the Democrats are so weak themselves, otherwise they would have given the AEI and Wolfowitz types a run for their money.

What we're about to see is what happens when anyone that can fog a mirror can either a) get a zero down IO or option ARM mortgage or b) get a home equity loan. Most of the post-9/11 economic prosperity we had was the result lf loose lending standards and/or appraisal fraud. It worked pretty well while the real estate market was going up, but now that it's sputtering it's gonna be ugly. If I had to pick a scapegoat, I'd blame Alan Greenspan for suggesting people take out ARM mortgages when rates were at multi-decade lows and the Federal Reserve for not being diligent regarding banks' lending practices.
