It's a simple question. I don't know how he's "giving up his rights" because she was asking him something harmless, and he was being a dick about it. Police interrogation? now THAT's laughable.

@gandhiihe is not being forced to stay there. He is not detained, and he could have taken a different route if it was that big of a deal to him.

He proved that he knew his rights, and that knowing your rights can stop authority figures from having undue power over you, as long as the legal system supporting those rights exists. Imagine, if you will, that the agent had gotten the man's name, citizenship, license plate number, and destination (a common question from authority figures). No big deal, right, I mean its just information. Wrong! It is information that can be compiled so that people can be tracked and herded and made to conform to what it is that the elite power structure wants. This hasn't been much of an issue for the US historically, however, it has the potential to become a major problem in the future. Germany, however, under the rule of Hitler used such tactics as roadblocks and unnecessary traffic stops in order to ensure control over the populace which allowed them to do some really nasty things. Not unlike torture.

Maybe you should read the rest of my comments before you assume exactly how awesome I think that would be.Conan, being the Harvard educated humorist that he is, rarely appeals to ignorance on any level. Base ideas of humor, yes. Banal silliness, yes. Ignorance, no. He's appealing to the fact that it's not hard to point out hypocrisy, since everyone is at one point guilty, and if you are calling someone out then you shouldn't be wearing a lollipop on your pinkie finger.

Bravo to the Film-maker of Rejecting Authority at a Police State Checkpoint! You are a True American Hero! The US Border Patrol, in my opinion, are fascist Un-American Scum who pull over and harass innocent American Citizens at their Nazi-style Checkpoints. I should know as I was pulled over and illegally searched by these Border Patrol Traitor Scum (my opinion) today (9/27/08), at a nazi-like checkpoint on San Diego freeway 94 east of Jamul.I am not a "profile" type of suspect for these cops. I am a white guy - my family has been in America since 1700 and my family fought in the Revolutionary War. I am not right off of the boat and do not have an accent but was harassed nonetheless. To paraphrase the words of a WWII Minister, first they will come for the Mexicans and then they will come to harass you, the Native Born Americans.What I experienced is that San Diego assigned Border Patrol Officers Villalobos, Ward, Kennedy, and a dumpy short blonde female are illegally (in my opinion), popping open people's car trunks on freeway 94 by scaring and bullying people into giving "Consent" to search the vehicles. These Un-American Traitors,(in my opinion) gave me and other American Motorists an offer we could not refuse at their checkpoint stop. Either give "consent" for them to search our cars and trunks or else we are pulled over to the side of the freeway where we have to sit on a bench and be stared at and humiliated in front of all of the other motorists passing by. Meanwhile Officers Ward, Kennedy and Villalobos bring out their Phony Scam "Sniffing Dogs" who run around your car and then bark & jump up; whereupon they then declare that they now have probable cause to forcibly open your trunk, which is what they did to me. Of course, in my case all I had was a spare tire and a box of floor tile in my trunk, so they obviously got ripped off by whomever sold them the dog,(unless it is an actual scam where the dog barks at every car so the Border Patrol can pretend they have probable cause in every case)In my case these agents then took my Passport, (which I had on me), and my California Drivers License and went inside and made photocopies of all of it to keep for their files. The officer in charge even sent the blond officer back inside with loud orders to copy all of the pages in my Passport. (Was this to somehow scare or intimidate me?) They then gave me my keys back and told me nonchalantly that I could now leave.My wife began taking pictures of these Gestapo while we were sitting on the Bench and it totally freaked them out, with four of them running over yelling to stop taking pictures. Anyway, This kind of thing is something that happens in old B-rated Nazis movies where fat-faced fascists bark out "Papers Please" to scared citizens.The Border Patrol needs to be sued and driven out of America Proper by the Citizenry and sent back to the actual border fence, where they belong and the Border Patrol Officers need to have some serious internal training on the Bill of Rights. We are losing our Country, not to illegal aliens, but to the growth of a Creeping Police State! Wake Up America!
