The article here is talking about how reddit is a site programmed similar to digg. It is testing to see if digg censors articles pertaining to its own integrity; and not only in a bashing way, this is all completely neutral.

Just to clarify... I'm not bashing democracy, I'm bashing those that feel it's good only when it suits their purpose.

As an addendum to my comment, the "Bury Story" action seems to be akin to using a pair of pliers to remove a splinter. Sure it might work, but it definitely is not the best tool for the job. From the digg FAQ:"Digg gives moderation control back to the community. Should you run across any stories with bad links, off-topic content, or duplicate entries, please report them using the 'Bury Story' feature."Now it seems to me that more specific actions would be more appropriate - options that are indicative of the very scenarios digg has listed above. Notice there is no mention of "If you don't like this story...".Also, it appears digg does cover the methodology for how a story becomes buried:"The number of reports required to bury is based on a sliding scale that takes several factors into consideration (such as number of diggs, reports, time of day, topic submitted to, etc.). Buried stories can still be found in user profiles that have dugg the story, as well as our story search feature."I get the odd feeling that the ratio used for comparison against the number of diggs is maybe not as fair as it should be. I'm also not sure why time of day or topic should really matter, except in the case of time of day where digg may have applied it against usage patterns.

Your theory makes sense, until you factor in ALL of the variables:http://www.jgc.org/blog/2006/07/sense-of-humor-failure-at-digg.html

The community/comments aspect of digg is WAY overrated. This is just further evidence of that.

Why couldn't you comment on a banned user? It seems like that's a part of transparency too...knowing what is ok and what is not.

I just burried the story because it's lame. A digg copycat that fails miserably at what it's designed to do (IMO) isn't exactly something to be considered newsworthy enough to post to digg. The UN-Design of Reddit makes it disgusting on the eyes and the single-line links provide little if no basis letting me know if I should even care about the linked "story."

I wouldn't believe what you are saying about reddit for too long. Everything on the internet is good for about two years. Myspace was good for about two years, digg was good for about two years, reddit is starting to reach the end of its usefulness. The fact is, as something grows in popularity it begins to draw the attention of those too stupid to notice it the first time around and you end up with a website full of spammers and ADD kids who do exactly what you said. They just click around aimlessly and leave stupid comments. 4chan is begining to experience the same thing. Problem is, where to next? Digg hasn't been worth my time for quite a while now. Fark was always a little bit too boring. Slashdot died long ago. Now reddit is starting to suck. Sites like theregister.com will always be good for tech news but as far as social bookmarking and getting that rounded user base of intelligent people with interesting links that hit on a lot of different topics goes, its time to move on.

I don't like how reddit is layed out. Very ugly looking page. Digg has a simpler layout the reddit and a better design.
