kotaku.com — Some Xbox 360 owners have noticed that while wailing on their whammy bars to snag more Star Power, that the performance of the controller has been less than rockin'. Red Octane responds with which models are affected, and what you should do if you got one of the defective guitars.

Are there some notes that aren't meant to be, er, "whammied"? Mine works almost all the time, but I've noticed that some notes refuse to be, er, "whammied", and though I haven't been paying that close attention to it, it seems to be the same notes on repeat playings. Is this for artistic preservation of the song, or did I get a borked one?

There is more wrong than just the whammy bar... I have had two controllers go 'bad' after a few hours of usage. One minute working fine, the next half the buttons don't work. If you read through the user submitted comments on a number of the blog entries about bad whammy bars, there are many others that have had the same issue... seems the design of these first two models may be susceptible to static shocks... you know, the kind you get when you stand up from your couch here in the northeast US when it's cold and dry out... hopefully this 'new' model corrects this issue as well as the whammy concerns (I never had a problem with the whammy on either guitar I had). The game's a lot of fun, though, at least a little bit worth the hassle of returning it two or three times.

@nohkulFTA : "Customer's who purchased through our online store can complete an rma (RETURN merch auth) request for their DEFECTIVE item and we will EXCHANGE it for a fully function guitar controller." & "We are asking that customers.. ..perform an EXHANGE..."I'm not sure I follow you.. do you think that they're recalling them because they don't like the numbers on them? You said: "Article posted on the Net says nothing about returning defective ones, just that these two model numbers are bad." Doesn't say return defective ones? I put key words in caps to help you. I'd say that's not jumping to conclusions, but rather, repeating info given by Red Octane. And the quote in the first reply was quoting my description.. in response to Endorphine saying "This story is just plain false, they did not say all the guitars are defective" so I quoted where it said SOME were affected.

Thats the whammy bar crapping out. Any held note should be.. er.. 'whammyable'.

Have a 95065 and the same issue with the yellow button. It goes away though after a bit so I think its just getting broken in. ...off to try to get back in the top 50000 again.
