hardwaresecrets.com — Every user has had trouble with a scratched CD. In the case of data CDs, the drive cannot properly read the CD, giving rise to reading errors. In the case of audio CDs, the CD skips when we play it. Great article on how to fix scratched cds.

EAC.... and wait. ( http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/ )My test junk-CD (Metallica's "Ride the Lightning") I ran steel wool over a bunch of times. Nothing, normal CD player or PC drive, plays it properly. EAC took something like 45 mins to extract one 5-min song from it, but it sounds fine! (as fine as anything Metallica can sound.)EAC rip - burn - done.

the 'great article' can be summarised by 'polish with toothpaste'. Lame.2 words & an url:unstoppable copierhttp://www.roadkil.net/unstopcp.htmlThat'll save your data.

Hands down, the best emergency cleaner is the wood cleaner, Pledge. just spray it on, wait a second, then wipe it off.
