boingboing.net — Police officers investigating a break-in were attacked by burglars with hammers, knives, & chains. As one of them stabbed at a policeman with his knife, a mysterious do-gooder appeared from nowhere and attacked him with a samurai sword. Two of the criminals were arrested, but in true hero style the samurai disappeared before police could thank him.

Unless he had no idea how to use it properly or had no upper body strength. I am the uber-nerd...I will argue European blades over Japanese blades.

If this is real.. cool, but using a katana to disarm a burglar doesn't exactly make you a samurai.

A Samurai was a hired fighter for a Daimyo. He protected their lands. A Ronin was a Samurai with no Daimyo (whether it be from him being outcast, or fired, or from the Daimyo's death). A ninja was essentially a hired assassin, or mercenary. They held no allegiance to a Daimyo, only to who paid the most money. The guy in the story was none of these. Just some crazy nutbag with a sword. Unless he was paid to assist the police, in which case it could be argued he is a ninja. But I don't think that's the case. It's annoying when someone in the literary world (although journalism may be argued) gets something so simple so wrong. Google; live it and love it.

That is the f**king coolest thing I've read in weeks.I guess it makes sense that a comic-book gang armed with chains, knives, and hammers would end up fighting a dude straight out of a comic book.
