Sorry, but that's about as smart as Nicholas Cage naming his kid Kal-El.

Am I the only one who was disappointed? After hearing comparisons with the original Star Wars, seeing the incredible trailers/promo stills AND learning that one of my favourite French filmmakers was directing the project, I was expecting a film on the same level as "Aliens" or "Bladerunner" (I won't even mention how huge a fan of both Tricky and Gary Oldman I was at the time). I mean, could you imagine - forget the movie you all know and love, just for a moment - an edgier, darker action-thriller along the lines of Leon or Nikita, in a sci-fi setting with Mila, all helmed by Besson? Of course in retrospect, I'm wishing it was a completely different movie; it was just too cartoonish for me. Of course, now that I know the script they were working with, it probably wouldn't have meshed with the style I was hoping for (at least, not without a massive rewrite). The writing, the art direction, Tricky's awful acting, the banal "love conquers all" moral of the story... it's enough to make a meat popsicle wish he had a ZF-1 to sit on (or put in his mouth). *big bada boom*

Of course in retrospect, I'm wishing it was a completely different movie; it was just too cartoonish for me - no real emotional involvement left me feeling completely indifferent about the characters' fates. Of course, now that I know the script they were working with, it probably wouldn't have meshed with the style I was hoping for (at least, not without a massive rewrite). The writing, the art direction, Tricky's acting, the lack of any real emotional drama, the banal "love conquers all" moral of the story... it's enough to make a meat popsicle wish he had a ZF-1 to sit on (or put in his mouth). *big bada boom*

I actually didn't like it the first time i saw it. Nor the second time. But then, the THIRD time I saw it, I finally liked it a little. The more I see it, the more I like this movie... and after reading this article/thread, I'm sure I'll like it even more the next time I see this movie. I personally think I didn't like the movie at first because I was insanely jealous of Mila's perfect body. GRRRRRR!!!
