nuxified.org— Who would have thought someone would work 10 years on a project of "recreating" Windows, but React OS is doing exactly that, and it is completely Free Software. Here is a nice review with some screenshots.

No it's not Linux, and yeah,it will run Windows programs...I'm waiting for all the bugs to be worked out before i get it...A duel boot with Linux would be nice.
It's OK but defiantly nowhere near a Windows "alternative" and it's certainly not done right/better.I just tested it for a while in VMWare, installation only took ~15seconds, not bad. Upon start-up it detected it was running inside vmware and installed the appropriate SVGA/Sound driver(s) from the Win2k vmware-tools package unfortunately that “goodness” didn’t continue. When it tried to install the VMWare-SATA driver it crashed but worked again after rebooting, it’s “ReactOS browser” doesn’t seem to work properly because I was unable to click edit/input boxes everything typed would just automatically go in the url bar. The most annoying thing though, in my opinion is pretty much everything flashes… all the time.Let’s hope they/he keep trying though, perhaps, in another 10-20 years it might be a viable windows alternative or at least properly usable anyway.
So when do they think they will have a stable version out? I have been rooting and waiting for this for at least a year. Thanks guys for working on this project!
"There are actually about 15 regular developers and a few people who patch bugs and do testing on the side." -DarkhackerWindows has hundreds, if not thousands, of developers so in terms of man-hours this is very new.
In relative terms it is a new project, How long do you think it would have taken Linux to get where it is today if it was a team of the same size and all working on the Kernel, GNU stuff, X, ? Not to mention most of the time is spent reverse engineering stuff so they can actually get binary compatibility

Windows works well with virii and spy ware, Trojans and exploits. And it costs money. reactos .. same thing, but free. I choose reactos.
