chicagonow.com — Now in it's 35th season, I'd say "SNL" is holding about a C average. Some weeks have stood out--like Taylor Swift's Nov. 7 episode. But some--January Jones' Nov. 14 ep--have been complete and total fails.

Meh. I think ranking the cast is a pointless exercise. It takes away from the hard work done by the "straight man". Darrell Hammond (who just left the show, depending on how strictly you define 'left') would never top a list like this, but he was an invaluable part of the show. Enough to keep being brought back for a record number of seasons. That being said, I like Bobby Moynahan (sp?), I usually enjoy when he's onscreen.I think Fred Armisen is outstanding. Maybe not the best in the Obama role, but he's usually not delivering jokes and people shortchange him for that.Kristen Wiig is great, but that's the problem. The other women on the show won't get a break, and that's a shame. SNL has traditionally not known exactly how to handle funny women.I've always stuck with SNL. It's trendy to hate on it, but ultimately pointless. It's like going to a comedy club and looking for reasons to not laugh.

Armisen - still funny, but fadingForte - definitely on the declineSudekis - a bit above averageHader - averageMeyers - nothing specialKeenan Thompson - hit-or-miss, but generally missSamberg - only good if the show were about film shorts - but it's not - it's saturday night LIVEWiig - the reason that the show is failing so badly - Gilly might be the worst recurring character ever
