I think it was a smart choice from AMD to make a smaller, but yet beefy GPU with 55nm processing technology to compete in the middle to higher mainstream segment. Even alone 4850 and 70 are really nice and quite fast. And to wipe the floor with nVidia, they can just implement two of those bad boys into one card to make a sick solution for the enthusiasts.This way they can push the production costs down, as they can use it in many different products and use more of the silicone wafer. Makes sense to me.The other thing is that, does it really matter if there are two cores used??? No one seemed to complain when we got the dual-core CPUs. And now triple- and quad-cores. Intel has predicted that in a couple of years we shall have as many as 80 cores in our desktops. So...The scalability of Crossfire issue... SLI had problematic start also, as not many games scaled well. But today that's another story. I'm sure, that it will be the case with Crossfire too, as it gets more popular. New drivers, some updates and suddenly you are holding a beast in your hands. Though Crossfire has been around for a while, I've been reading that the scaling has been a problem. But I also have been reading, that with the 4xxx series it has gotten better. I guess there really is light in the end of the tunnel. I'm pretty sure that this scaling issue hasn't been only ATI/AMD's fault. I mean, someone has to write the code for the games. And that isn't and hasn't been ATI or AMD... Right?Sure, there are the heat and power issues discussed, but hey, everything comes with a price. I'm sure the GTX 280 isn't the most efficient one out there either =)Don't get me wrong, I really respect nVidia for making such great products. Almost too good, that there really hasn't been any serious competition going on for quite a while now =) (I'm also running on nVidia. It's the 6800GT@ULTRA)So, nVidia fans... Don't come behind my door with baseball bats. Ok?I'm just happy for AMD that they finally have some really nice products to offer in the graphics segment.I have been an AMD fan since the first Athlons, as I realized that Intel just got some competition. That meant that consumer prices came down. My first AMD was a 550MHz slot A Athlon. Then I upgraded at some point to what I'm using now, which is Athlon XP-m 2400+ @ 3200+ (2.2GHz).I'm just about to upgrade and yes, you guessed it. It will rely completely on AMD products. Thank you AMD for keeping the Intel outside of my system!=) =) =)Yes, I know Intel is faster at this point, but if there wasn't AMD, how much do you think the processors would cost??? So I will opt for AMD no matter what someone would say. I also have issues with Intel's marketing strategies. I don't like the big company with 80% of the markets to play it unfair. They are paying manufacturers to delay AMD parts, paying companies and government offices to choose their products and so on. There are many lawsuits like these. So, my money goes to AMD. Doesn't make a difference in AMD's budget, but it is _my personal_ statement to support AMD so they keep on fighting the big boys of Intel. We need competition to keep the costs down and, most importantly, to keep the technology evolving.By the way. Someone will most definetly want to cry and complain, so for those of you who are about to: I'm just telling my thoughts and opinions. I'm not telling anyone to something over the other. Buy nVidia, buy Intel, buy AMD or don't. All of them are great products. There is something for everyone.Sorry, this became "a little bit" long... I hope at least someone read it through =)Liked it?
