seattlepi.nwsource.com — WASHINGTON -- Libertarian-leaning congressman Ron Paul is urging voters to reject John McCain and Barack Obama and support one of the third-party candidates for president.Paul, a Republican who abandoned his White House bid earlier this year, is gathering some of the candidates, independent Ralph Nader among them, on Wednesday to make his plea.

I will be writing in Ron Paul, not because that'll make him president, but because he is the only one who has the guts to talk about the real issues and promote viable alternatives, and the public needs to see that. Barr is not a libertarian simply because he signed on, and is miserably failing to make the case for the LP. The rest of the fringe candidates are plain useless to making a moral case. Now to my main point --

Anything is better than the garbage parties Dem and Repub. s**t I will take any independent over them. Yet, I have to research some of the others. Barr is ok, however, he has a terrible voting record.

So Ron Paul is going to leave the Republican party when he runs for re-election in 2010? Nah, of course not. He loves all the benefits that go along with being in a major party. This "major" announcement wasn't very smart. He is going to split the vote between all those candidates. They need to form a coalition if they hope to create a major third party. I'm also surprised that his supporters aren't jumping on him for endorsing an "evil socialist" like Nader and McKinney. You guys are quick to call Obama a socialist, but these folks are even further to the left.

I don't think a third party win is realistic in this election and Ron Paul knows this - instead he has chosen a much smarter path of not favoring a specific candidate, but instead encouraging voters to reject the faux two party system and vote for someone who actually represents their views. In other words, the goal is not victory at all costs, but legitimacy of third party candidacy and the eventual rise of a true democratic electorial process.
