>but I think you would agree that not every parent is computer savvy (my dad can't even turn on a computer).Ok, the letter states a direct admission of guilt. His daughter is listening to music on Kazaa. The "I don't even know how it got here" defense will not stand. Bottom line..The RIAA are scum, but if you do break the law or one of your children breaks the law, don't go pissing and moaning because you don't know what your kids are doing in your own house. For christ sake, take some personal responsibility for the actions of your kids. Know what they are doing on their computer and how they use it. You wouldn't go buying them a gun and leaving them in a room alone. These days, the internet can be just as dangerous if your children are not given guidance. If you are not computer savvy, then don't buy a freaking computer unless you intend to become computer savvy. Or at the very least teach your children basic morality, you don't need to be computer savvy to teach them not to steal.Take a basic computer class before buying one. You can learn the basics and have no excuse for not trying other than ignorance or laziness. Try making the excuse, "My kid shot himself in the head with my gun, but I have no idea how the bullets got loaded." See where that lands you.Don't bury me because you think I am an RIAA lover. I agree they are greedy lost in the 70's corporate scum.Sure they should go after the big guys, but the fact still stands that this guys daughter broke the law and someone should take responsibility for it. If I steal $20 from a bank, I can't make the excuse "But there are big bank robbers you should worry about who steal millions. I'm just the little guy. The bank makes billions off of everyone's money."
"These guys wont stop until they get a bloody nose,. Take a lesson from France. Violent protests work. Or just sit on your arse and wait for things to get worseGlad I no longer live in US"I'm glad you don't live in the US either. Bunch of free-loading socialists. The South Park episode was about this. Don't give in to "terrorism" RIAA.
The way I see this whole mess...The RIAA is using what amount to extortion tactics to try and preserve their current (failing) business model at all costs. They truly don't care who the screw, including the very artists that produce the material to begin with, just as long as they make their execs happy with fat paychecks. Our government, for reasons that still baffle me (I suspect it's a simple case of "Follow the Money" as far as campaign contributions are concerned), is permitting the RIAA to get away with these tactics.I believe that, eventually, their own tactics will become their downfall. Yes, most of the population are sheep, but any animal, even a sheep, will fight back if pushed hard enough.May the day when the sheep start kicking come soon.Keep the peace(es).
But why doesn't it work? Yes, copyright infringement is against the law, but where does the law require that you have complete and total knowledge of everything your child does on a computer? What if they cleverly installed a second OS with a hidden dual-boot so even some parent who read up on Administrator and Limited User accounts doesn't know? What happens if they do all their file sharing from a command-line? Is the average joe supposed to understand that too? There's a point where we have to recognize that children may be a lot more capable at using computers than their parents, but a lot less aware of the consequences of their actions.
i mean this does sound retarded , going after people like this is exactly why they're facing such backlash . If i were RIAA i'd be trying to frame n sue some rich families whose kids have >10 Mbps connections and use them to leech music ( and maintain less than 0.5 ratio @ oink :D ) Reality Check so f**k THE RIAA!!!!
