It's going to end up where we pay money for music but we're not allowed to listen to it because it's a violation.f**k those f**kers. They can get as extreme as religious extremists for all I care. I'll be waiting for that day.
Well that just about does it for me. Screw the RIAA. I'm doing what I want. If I feel like paying an artist for their music, I'm going to a concert. Forget buying the CD, what do they get off that anyways? 1$?? WTF
Let me see. Let's try using that same logic with everyday activities. With that same logic you can't take that milk jug (if it has a label on it of course all do) out of the refrigerator and pour the milk into a glass, no that's another container. You have to drink it out of the carton. Because the carton has the name of the dairy plant on it. I forgot to mention that you need to get permission from the grocer who stocked it, the farmer who got it from the cow, along with permission from the cow that made it before you drink it. I'm of the belief If i bought the music with my hard earned money and I want to rip it to my ipod (for my personal use) that should be my choice. It's not like I'm burning copies from my CD and selling. I know enough not to do that. I have A legal question. If the CD's were purchased before the RIAA changed their mind then wouldn't any music ripped from them be non-prosecutable (yes/no) Correct me if I'm wrong. I still think if I bought it I can rip it as long as I don't redistribute it.
Here in Canada, it is now illegal to copy your own CD on ANY fixed storage :- Rip on a fixed Hard Drive = ILLEGAL- Rip directly on a USB drive = OK- Rip directly to a Blank CD (packet writting) = OK- Rip to fixed HD and than write to a blank CD = ILLEGAL- Rip to HD then write on an iPod = ILLEGALFunny hey ?! That tell us how these lawyers / judges understand these technologies !!!Anyway, who knows that ? Who respect these laws ?
Soon they will try and charge royalties...force Apple to make iPods log music played and report it back. So every time you listen to the music you get charged.
Your right.WGA is just the tip of the iceberg...I cringe to think what little suprises will be slipped into Vista. And it would not suprise me at all if CD's become a thing of the past and the music industry adopts the download model, which they can more easily control. And one copy of said song per device would also not surprise me. I don't see them ever going out of business because too many people will continue to grumble and pay up. I seldom buy music and when I do,it's from independent labels at CD baby...I also play the hammer dulcimer and a couple other instruments, so I can make my own music.
The RIAA can say a lot of things, but they are not an authority. They're a waste of money. All the money spend by music and movie companies to hire RIAA to search & destroy lives could have been used to cover the so called loss in income these companies claim to have. A win/win situation if you ask me! :)

I VERY much doubt the RIAA will be able to do anything about this. Why? Record Companies will PISS at them becuase of sale loss.

Your words do not hurt them and buying CDs helps them. Make your words loud and clear. Do not buy CDs and show them a real lesson.

Rip your track to your iPod nano, then blast in on the MiniBlaster from JLab Audio, www.jlabaudio.com, it's a pocket sized speaker for the nano!

They don't want us to give the artists money. They want you to give THEM money. Cut out those looser musicians.
