extremetech.com— ExtremeTech put the just-released Core 2 chips (formerly Conroe) through 20 benchmark tests, and it beats AMD on all of them. Even the standard desktop chip beats AMD's enthusiast FX-62.

@FRAGaLOT:That's the thing, Intel is looking to be the best bang for the buck this time around. Supposedly they're pricing the chips very competitively, whic means that, at least early on, they're positioning them to be comparably, if not more reasonably, priced than AMD's offerings. However, it still remains to be seen if things actually play out as such, or whether that was just marketing speak.
Well, lets see, the Core 2 Duo E6700 is $530 and the AMD FX-62 is around $1000 so yes.Cheaper + faster. The extreme core duo is around the same price and is much faster.
Remember when everyone was wondering why Apple went with Intel for their switch to x86 instead of AMD? Apple definitely plans ahead, another good example, I needed to open an old Appleworks document so I used the Appleworks from my old System 8 CD. I was waiting for classic to open and it didn't, Appleworks just opened. That's right, The un-updated version of Appleworks that shipped with OS 8 was already compatible with OS 10, naively long before anyone outside the company even knew about thier radical switch to BSD. It was a little buggy, but it ran.
And you think an FX-62 is affordable at a price of.. oh wait, it's PRICED EXACTLY THE SAME.Anywho, buy a E6600/E6700 for half the price and overclock past the EE's ability. Or if you're really cheap, buy the E6300 (~$200) and overclock, though you won't get nearly has high as the other two (the multipler isn't high enough).

Another review of the new CPUs is available at http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2006/07/14/intel_core_2_duo_processors/1.htmlI love the Conroe.. Better performance, less heat, and less power consumption - awesome! :D
