Wouldn't it be cool if they made something like this that used no electricity, had zero viewing angle problems, and was dirt cheap? Oh yeah, that's the technology they are trying to displace...

Hell, you can pick up a 15" for $120.<a class="user" href="http://www.saveateagle.com/e152fp.html?ovchn=OTHER&ovcpn=Froogle&ovcrn=E152FP&ovtac=CMP">http://www.saveateagle.com/e152fp.html?ovchn=OTHER&ovcpn=Froogle&ovcrn=E152FP&ovtac=CMP</a>

Use your $120 monitor with a $12 "digital photo viewer"<a class="user" href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300017219768&category=43450">http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300017219768&category=43450</a>And you've got a 15" digital frame for half the price of this crap.

I find it ironic that an article about pictures and frames contains no pictures of frames.

This kid's got the right idea: a quick how-to on making a digital photo frame out of an $11 Mattel Juicebox:<a class="user" href="http://joevennix.blogspot.com/2006/08/juicebox-digital-picture-frame-v3.html">http://joevennix.blogspot.com/2006/08/juicebox-digital-picture-frame-v3.html</a>Small, but it works. The same kid also made a N64 portable that looks pretty cool.

A picture of a picture?

You guys and your "old laptops turned into super frames" tall tales just need to stop. Aside from the Kodak wood digital frame from years ago, there has been a drop in quality frames on the market. You guys point to PopSci, LifeHacker, and MAKE articles as if so many of us have $400 used laptops that we can rip apart and attached to a wooden box frame. Like we all want to sepend time fabricating custom housing and writing small linux kernals with self starting slideshow applications complete with bluetooth and 802.11 n. Give me a break. For the average person who wants to display pictures on their table at home, these frames are excellent. As long as manufacturers keep including media card readers and eventually upgrade to wifi connectivity, these will have a market. Just think about how many people use Cevia and that requires a montly fee and a stupid dial up line!
