Don't know why you're being dugg down, you're quite right. Aerobic workouts may make your metabolism higher, but you can't expect to burn the fat in 5 big macs through aerobics, you'd be on the track all day. To get ripped, you need high intensity interval training (not slow aerobics), you need a weights regimen, and you need to watch what you eat: no pre-processed food, no simple carbs, no sugar, no saturated fats, a moderate amount of fruit. You need mostly protein, low GI carbs and mono-unsaturated fats.
You're missing the point of weight lifting. Even if you're not a body builder, weight lifting can do you a world of good. The point is that to lose weight, you need to cut back on calories and perform intense interval aerobics. However, this will wither away any muscle you may have, and loss of muscle is bad because muscle burns fat. Doing weights prevents you from losing muscle mass. So doing weights in conjunction with cutting calories and HIIT is the best way to lose weight.
