I wish people wouldn't be so anti-digital. I, for one, am psyched about the idea that successful, feature films are being shot on digital cameras. Film is too cost prohibitive for the little guy. Granted, the digital camera they used for this particular movie costs $150,000, but there are others out there that are more reasonable. Red is making some that'll put a lot of power in the hands of independent filmmakers with low budgets. The fact that well-financed Hollywood productions are willing to embrace digital cinema gives the format a fighting chance.
You know what I find funny? I saw a documentary about Dillinger about a month or two ago...told the Mrs, "That was thoroughly entertaining...I would watch a film about that." I'd heard of 'Public Enemies' at that point, but didn't know the subject of it yet.How cool. Can't wait to see it.
@SyricI didn't forgot Batman Begins. My point in that post was to show the movies that he is not well known for in the mainstream. Go up to a regular guy or girl on the street and say "name a Bale movie." They'll say "batman." If you ask them "Have you ever seen The Machinist?" They'll be like "the what?"
More importantly, the frame rate seems to be not "24" which makes the motion look like closed-circuit TV. The lighting looks pretty bad in a lot of scenes, especially in one low-lit scene where caked-on makeup is visible on Johnny.
Well, I'm a slight music snob but so far the soundtrack for this movie looks awesome. So many good acts (Billie Holiday, Bruce Fowler Band, Elliot Goldenthal)...and of course Otis Taylor. His song is awesome in the trailer. His CD comes out next week too, I'm looking forward to hearing what else he has!
