guardian.co.uk— Prozac, the bestselling antidepressant taken by 40 million people worldwide, does not work and nor do similar drugs in the same class, according to a major review released today.

dude, go back to class and hold your posts on physiological psychology until you graduate. i would give you links to read but i really have to run. it's fair to say, however, that you are full of s**t.
I can attest to anti depressants, specifically Prozac working. Prior to getting on Prozac I had been depressed for the last 7 years, a severe depression where I could not get up the energy to leave the house and I attempted to kill myself 3 times, and was hospitalized for about 2 years total. I became adept at lying to the doctors, and they released me, I again tried to kill myself but failed. I researched anti depression medications online and my doctors if Prozac was an option (I has been on a Depakote c**ktail before) they put me on it, and I have been doing better ever since. Of course I am still not over my depression, or my suicidal ideation, but I am in control of them. Not that anyone here cares, but my depression is the result of a girlfriend of 5 years who was pregnant with my child being run over by a coke head driver not 10 feet in front of me 7 years ago, she died in my arms, her blood covering most of my body.. and I have never been the same since. I dream that she is alive every night, and that she is asleep next to me, etc.. only to wake up to the hell that is my life. People have a high tolerance for emotional travesty but there are some things that no one should ever have to experience. I truly hope that no one reading this has to go through anything of this magnitude.
Say what you will about the primitive state of modern psychiatry (in reality, it hasn't really progressed much beyond lobotomy) and the crudeness of the action of its psychotropic drugs, at least they do have some positive effects, even if they do often amount to little more than a chemical, temporary equivalent of a frontal lobotomy. The right SSRI will numb the incredible psychological pain of severe depression, allowing one to become a bit more functional and take steps towards applying a more permanent solution, such as starting a regular exercise regiment, improving their living conditions, etc. It can take a while to find the right SSRI or a combination of an SSRI with other drugs though. It’s a trial and error process. On the other hand, psychology is a complete f**king joke. Most psychotherapists don't do squat, beyond pretending to listen to you and care, some times throwing in some banal and obvious advice. You can get such "services" from any decent friend, for free. I am a firm believer in therapy being a complete waste of your time, at least if you are somewhat intelligent and capable of figuring s**t out on your own. Treating depression with a powerful psychotropic drug is a bit like swatting flies with a hammer, but at least it’s somewhat effective.
I find it funny everyone is against this medicine....but I bet you more then half of you have never even tried it considering most are saying "Just be happy" The drug works....it takes time though. But you can not just rely on it to do everything...you your self must try to change your attitude, habits, way of life, as the prozac will help you accomplish this. For all that are saying " just be happy" ...how about "just shut up if you dont know what your talking about" . (= Anyone out there with any problems...give it a try..it might work..it might not..but its worth a try
It?s so wonderful to see such a group with people who are so impassioned about celexa! People just don?t understand how really important is to celexa and in the right way. That?s why we should make sure that such the right info is available to anyone. I have my own blog related to natural skin care I personally experienced for over several years. I truly believe that by reading it, others will be able to gain some useful information and knowledge in the right way. So we agree you need to target the problem, not just the symptoms, but Prozac doesn't do any of it. This isn't the first study to point out that it's no more effective than a placebo, so I completely disagree that "this study appears to be a meaningless meta analysis". Here's some previous research which has discussed Prozac's uselessness:July/Aug 2004: http://psychologytoday.com/articles/pto-19940701-0 ...May 2002: http://www.scienceagogo.com/news/20020401213621dat ...Autumn 2002: http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m5EEF/is_1_6 ...Nov/Dec 2003: http://www.motherjones.com/news/feature/2003/11/ma ...These are not new claims, nor are they unfounded. The body is a complex system, but it does not mean there are no simple solutions. Just look at how many diseases can now be prevented or cured with a simple shot. This "guess and test on the mass public" method of medicine is sickening - literally! No one has any more proof that the brain's chemicals cause depression than that being upset (aka. "depressed") creates an imbalance. If I have the flu and I'm vomiting, you don't force my body to stop vomiting then say "he no longer has the flu."When "science" accepts "probably" or "could be due to" instead of requiring evidence, the Bible-thumpers in Kansas become more right in their claims that science is just another belief system. All I'm suggesting is we stop a multibillion dollar industry from selling drugs which openly state that they treat depression which is "thought to be due to a chemical imbalance in the brain." Emphasis on "thought to."

I wonder who the "Readers" were who "have reported that this story contains information that may not be accurate." Perhaps employees of Eli Lilly????
