Stallman's been trying that for a long while, and where's it gotten him? Try to remember that we're an extreme minority. There are a lot more black people, or really of any ethnicity, than there are hackers...

Just a sidenote-Trusted Computing is a propaganda term. Treacherous Computing is more accurate, and fits into all the acronyms just as well.

For the record, nothing stops you from backing up, distributing, or making millions of copies of iTunes music store downloads. The DRM comes in when you try to play back the file - iTunes needs to be "authorized" with your apple id for this to take place. But, I still don't like DRM. :-

jjkurtz wrote:"I never really had much against DRM until I couldn't read an ebook that I paid for because Adobe Reader wouldn't activate under Linux. Fortunately, after looking around, I found an alternative. I'll protest DRM by not buying another ebook even though they cost much less than paper. At least I can open a paper book when I want to read it."Yeah, I bought a Linux book, published by Sybex, and the pdf wouldn't open in Linux. I understand the ignorance of some that don't realize not everyone runs windows, but when you're publishing a Linux book! That's just stupid, last book I'll ever buy from Sybex.

I think that DRM is here to stay, sure it sucks but its a necessary evil. Think of a world before the itunes music store, Napster came out, ran riot and scared the RIAA of ever wanting to touch the strange mystical "internets" for a long long time, then apple came along said "hey guys, we've managed to make files that can only be read by so many computers" and slowly but surely people got involved, nowadays we've got loads of different providers giving us pretty much the same content, the RIAA isn't quiet so twitchy and it means i can buy beatie boys tracks at 5am in my jammies if that's what i want to do.Remember that no matter how crazy stupid annoying DRM is, there are ALWAYS ways around it :)

Go read the GNU philosophy pages, and then you'll understand.
