news.yahoo.com — Demonstrators stormed a Wal-Mart on the outskirts of Mexico City, accusing the U.S.-based retailer of selling low-cost goods at the expense of workers, farmers and public markets. About 250 protesters chanted "Out! Out!" in front of Wal-Mart's corporate headquarters before entering the adjacent store.

I love it when tree hugging hippies (or stupid mexicans in this case) run around saying Wal Mart is bad for everybody when they are selling the same goods as the next store for less money... thus poor people have more spending power at a Wal Mart than Target (for example). Yep, must suck to be able to purchase more food/clothes/asprin/ect at a Wal Mart as compaired to the other store.Futhermore, if Wal Mart was such a s**thole job, then why do people even work there? Is ANYONE forced to work at Wal Mart? Do Wal Mart employees get a discount on purchases (hope not, that would be worse).Yep, the world will be a better place when I have to pay twice as much for a can of corn.

Canthros you miss the point. It doesn't matter if the pay at WalMart is a little above minimum wage. It's not your place to decide if WalMart jobs are careers or stepping stones. The point is ALL JOBS should pay a living wage that provides dignity to workers. NOT SOME, NOT JOBS FOR "EDUCATED" PEOPLE, NOT CAREER JOBS.......BUT ALL JOBS. Not everyone wants to go to college or can. That doesn't mean they have no worth. You are saying some people aren't worthy of a living wage no matter how many hours they work, how hard they work or how essential their job is. What would "educated" people do to make themselves superior if they had to clean their own houses, bring their own garbage to the dump, ring up their own groceries and clean the store? I could go on and on. I get the feeling no matter how much I tell you that all people at all levels have worth and need each other you won't get it.One day you will learn humility. It won't be pretty. You are so high on your pride it will be a looooooooooooooooooooong way down.

Should my brother's paper route pay a living wage?

Another racist comment, assuming that all Mexicans think and act the same merely because they are Mexican. Are you aware that you are a bigot, or are you so ignorant that you don't even realize your own prejudice?Sorry to be so harsh, but I think it is wrong to give bigots a free ride just because they happen to target Mexicans rather than Jews or Irishmen. A bigot is a bigot.

@dugdig Well, we'll all have to accept higher prices so long as we continue to use a fiat currency and allow a private corporation like the "Federal" Reserve to print as much money as they can find trees to chop down. Aside from adjustments for inflation or unexpected supply shortages, however, I have not seen Wal-Mart ever in its history do something like suddenly jacking up prices after driving out the competition. Wal-Mart didn't get to be where they are by being stupid, and they know they would end up losing a lot of money from lawsuits and firebombings if they were to ever hike prices across the board arbitrarily after eliminating the competition. Also, if they did jack up prices suddenly in Smallville, guess what'd happen? Target would move in across the street and put Wal-Mart outta business! The reason Wal-Mart takes over small towns and STAYS there is because nobody can compete with Wal-Mart's always low prices, at least not in America. In Germany, though, Wal-Mart has lost out to the competition, namely fellow price-slasher Aldi. So yeah, Wal-Mart can be beat, but only by offering an even better bargain to the consumer and not by being more hometownish, because every dollar spent at Wal-Mart is a vote in favor of value over presentation. The voters in America overwhelmingly choose Wal-Mart. One more thing... I have no idea what you're talking about comparing Wal-Mart to web startups, because Wal-Mart already is making huge profits.

"Walmart exploits my tax dollars to subsidize its cheap operations. There is nothing capitalist about that."You're right--around $1 billion (documented) has been diverted to Wal-Mart operations from state and local governments to encourage "economic growth." Wal-Mart also takes advantage of eminent domain laws. These are perfectly legitimate criticisms for Wal-Mart and state/local governments. That doesn't change the fact that Mexico is a hotbed for Marxism, and it doesn't make the protestors' Marxist arguments any more valid.

The Mexicans dont have enough money to buy the stuff, which only appears low priced to Americans

if capitalism means the exploitation of the poor in mexico for the benefit of some rich fat f**ks in Arkansas, then f**k CAPITALISM.
