news-press.com— "I personally find the word 'alien' offensive when applied to individuals, especially to children," said Sen. Frederica Wilson, D-Miami. "An alien to me is someone from out of space."

Aren't there issues to address that are slightly more important than what we call people who come here illegally? Enough of this PC gentle speech blah blah blah.. let's deal with the real problems. Changing names and labels and such are just ways to enforce the delusion that nothing is wrong in the world; the environment is just fine, there is no poverty in the world (only an abundance of food-impaired individuals), people aren't brainwashing kids to be soldiers, the economy is great, suicide bombs aren't rampant, la de da de da. What these people are really saying is they are too lazy or incompetent to tackle the real (and I'll admin overwhelming) problems, but want to look like they're doing something in office. Anyone who is offended by the term "alien" doesn't want to face the fact that we have a problem with aliens.
I don't agree with passing laws for this, but I don't think that the term "alien" should be used to refer to other human beings either. It just serves to alienate people (pun intended). I think that the use of the term "illegal immigrant" should be encouraged instead.
It's just a word... get over it. And if you dislike the word "alien" then stay away from Japan. Here, foreigners are refered to as "gaijin" or "outside person" (more politely known as "gaikokujin... person from an outside country")Foreigners living here have to apply for a "gaijin card", or as it's commonly known: ARC (Alien Registration Card). That's right. Foreigners carry an "alien card" with them. You can't walk two steps here without being reminded that you're an outsider. But you learn to get over it.
@sachmanbNo, its a right "guaranteed" to you by the constitution. However, there is nothing stopping a person from violating that "right" unless you, or someone else, does something about it. You don't have the right to anything you cannot or will not defend and that mister is the problem. Everyone thinks free speech is our "right" so they don't defend it, but if you don't stand up and fight back it will be taken away and the constitution wont shield you from that. And don't try and say I'm not doing anything about it either. I am an active member of the community, and active debater, active on school senate and am a junior statesman, so I make sure my voice is heard and if people try and shut me up I give them hell.
You neocons are the ones ruining this country, turning it from a pillar of liberal democracy into one of the most hated counties in the world. Get the f**k out, you treasonous bastards, before you do any more damage! Thanks.
Sorry... Immigrant is someone permanently leaving one nation for another, including changing national affiliation ie citizenship. Alien is someone or something that does not belong... I know plenty of resident aliens (having lived in Hollywood for 20 years you meet a lot of them) who find no pejorative in the term. Anyone outside of their country of citizenship is an alien, wherever they are. The real term of contention is "illegal" and until the laws of this country are changed allowing anyone to walk in and declare themselves a citizen, they will be illegal.

How about "illegitimate emigrant" for a replacement?

Okay, so drop "alien", insert "immigrant". Big deal. The key word is "illegal", which is what they are.
