web.me.com— Actual concept work from James Cameron that demonstrates Avatar is really just Pocahontas with a few names changed. In 3D.

seriously... who gives a crap. its still a good movie. how many movies out there are about the exact same s**t? how many movies are there with good triumphing over evil and all that crap. why don't you go whine about that too. people love the notebook and that had a SUPER cliche story. i dont see you people bitching about that. jeez if you want it so 'original' then come up with something better
I went to see a gripping story which I assumed would naturally come with creative visuals. I was wrong.I guess creative visuals and creative story telling are two different creativities?

I think that you could easily point to a bunch of different movies and point out their similarities to other older movies. What is not different about Avatar compared to Pocahontas is the meaning behind it, which is probably what James Cameron was inspired by among others. Bottom line is that even though the acting, directing, cg, story and everything else is different, someone is bound to point out that a movie is similar to another movie. Unless it is extremely independent in which case the budget is going to be very low and the CG is not going to be f-ing spectacular like that of Avatar. The problem I have with the letter is that it was obviously written by the same guy who corrected it so it's easy to point out the similarities when you only took the similarities and wrote them down to begin with. I don't remember there being anything about how John Smith was a cripple and could walk, or that he had to inhabit a Indian body through a machine that allowed him to control the Indian's body. Or reversely, which character in Pocahontas is equivalent to Sigorney Weaver's character? I mean haven't seen it in a long time so i could be wrong but i dont think there was...I think it was a great movie, probably willing to say best Sci Fi movie of all time, LOVE what they did with the 3D, the CG was unbelievable and worth every $250-some million they spent on it . If you want to bash it go ahead but you are not going to find many that will agree with you.Oh yeah and the ending seemed way different in both movies...
At this point in the game, itsd kinda hard to have a completely unique movie. Virtually every kind of plot has already been thought of. Thats why the most successful movies have been retold versions of historic events. example..titanic..300.......
I think you missed a more important message! The movie was cruising along, great graphics, story-line, believable characters, then came the "bring me back to reality" words: "Pre-emptive Strike" and "Shock and Awe". I didn't support the war, but don't ruin my fantasy with strategic attack methods used on Iraq. Its the only part of the movie that brought me back from the screen to my seat and made me compare this fantasy movie to real life events. Other than that brief scene, the movie was fantastic. The comparison to Pocahontas IMHO is a cute after the movie discussion. Technology and the fantasy aspect of the movie keeps that comparison tame. Don't miss out on the movie because it has a similar plot line to Pocahontas.
A majority of movies out there have similar concepts, that's just how it is. Doesn't mean the movie should lose credibility due to that... Overall, this movie was fantastic. My only complaint would be of viewing this movie in IMAX 3D. During nearly 3 hours of watching this movie in 3D ,my eyes felt as though they were bulgding out of their sockets, which resulted in giving me a horrific headache from hell. I'll rethink IMAX 3D next time when a movie is longer then an hour and a half...

I actually found it highly enjoyable, especially the scene where Tom Cruise gets beat down with a stick.
