projectoffset.com — Ok, so technically this is a repeat of -- http://digg.com/gaming_news/Project_Offset_Reveal_Click_the_Link --However now that the progress bar is all the way it looks like it still needs more. There's a second picture but the binary still says to keep going. So, since Digg seems dependant on stories being 'new' to make the top, I'm resubmitting.

Oh how I loathe "notpr0n" sites. I remember the good 'ol days...

are you kidding? normal mapping is one of the best advances for graphics in recent years.

Following their posts in the forums it looks like they discovered this page originally, and have talked about it quite a lot in the last few days. Whatever is going on here the offset guys are definitely community-aware. Wouldn't be surprised if they read this...

They aren't using typical normal mapping. They're using a technique that began on the Parhelia (remember that? lolz) and quickly was rewritten to be included in shaders, etc. It's a method of heightmapping your models so that bits that stick out more from the normal map actually occlude; they don't just shine or shade, they cover up what's behind them. If I'm not mistaken, the Gears of War engine also uses this kind of technique. It's not just normal mapping, and if you were a 3D artist worth your salt you'd know that. Hell, I'm not even in the industry and I know that.

Nice, the Dvorak thing, crazy.

For frack's sake, the progress bar isn't reliant upon unique IP hits. I dug both this post and the original post on digg, and after checking in on the site over the course of a couple days it smacks of linear progression. Odd's are they're trying to build up towards some date in the near future trying to increase the hype. The "digg effect" isn't going to get you any new screenshots any faster. Just gotta sit this one out.
