thepetitionsite.com — If prop 8 is not supported by hypocrites than this will pass. For those of you who voted yes on Prop 8 but disagree with this petition...Why? This petition is copied and pasted from literature from your website, ProtectMarriage.com, but applied to Divorce instead of Gay Marriage. So how can you argue with your own words?

Let the people vote and live with their decisions. Obviously that is too much to ask.

Funny - there is no "Biblical" stance on marriage.

No, Christians don't believe in divorce when it is under the right circumstances. You are obviously too young to remember when getting a divorce was extremely difficult and always a stigma. In fact, as a Christian, you should live a celibate life - as St Augustine said, marriage was only for the morally weak Christian who was not strong enough in his/her convictions to withstand the carnal desires of the flesh. I'm guessing your "church" does not teach you about the early church and its beliefs.

The problem I see with Prop 8 is that it must inevitably be found (In court challenge) to conflict with other areas of California's constitution. It can not be seen to be treating people equally. Since it is part of the constitution then the logical position will be that no marriage law can be made or existing marriage law be retained that does not offend one or other part of the constitution. The worst aspect of this legally is indeed with regard to divorce. If the state finds itself in the position of being unable to license, sanction or recognize marriage then all citizens are placed in the position of de-factos, where the state can not effectively assist in the distribution of property. I agree with those above that point out that with no effective way of achieving divorce we will no doubt see the murder rate increase. So I do not think we need a new proposition, as 8 may well prove to be a de-facto abolition of divorce

You're right, but wanting gay marriage so you can have more interesting daytime television somehow seems a little misguided...

Hell no. Show them why their point is *not* valid. Continue to argue based on the merits of your case - merits that already sway all objective observers - until you finally break through the irrational prejudice that begat Prop 8 in the first place.

No, you guys need to understand that the church -- and in fact the Bible as it exists today -- is the result of the workings of the early church fathers and the Byzantine state. The councils convened by Constantine formed the church and what is essentially Christian belief even today. Before that, there were many sects that had various interpretations of what constituted Christianity and there were many writings which were believed to be part of the Bible. Surely you're aware of the apocryphal portions of the Bible and the texts that were not included when the canon was made "official". And of the various interpretations of the position of Jesus as godhead that resulted in the concept of the Trinity that exists today among orthodox Christians?Neither Genesis (the Covenant with the Jews - not Christians--Christianity is an ascetic religion, Judaism is not) nor the letter to the Ephesians quotes Jesus -- so I fail to see how these support your comment about the words of Jesus. And no, I do not keep up with the names of "pastors" of evangelical sects. In any event Christ was never married nor were his disciples; nor were the earliest Christians. Until recently, Christians have seen all sex as the act of a weak constitution and that the purest Christians would abstain from sex.

Actually, you'd support it or not depending on what you think is moral regardless of how you view other people's motives. With 1/2 of all marriages failing I'd call BS. Look to your own backyard before you start looking to pull weeds in mine.
