arstechnica.com — Much attention has been given to the problem of students relying on Wikipedia as a source of information, but one professor has turned that problem on its head: instead of term papers, her students now write Wikipedia entries.

Awesome to see this in practice, I suggested it to my teacher brother and sister-in-law a couple of years ago, and have started my elementary age (homeschooled) kids to using wikipedia when they have a question about something. My six year old constantly asks if we can go on wikipedia to find out about a topic he doesn't understand yet. I purposely got them hooked on our favorite wiki in preperation for this exact assignment when they are a little further along in their education.

Or that an ellipsis should contain three periods, not four?

Deep Space Mission Uno, this is Houston control. Are you ready for the landing sequence and the return to planet Earth?

saying homeschoolers have social problems is just plain ignorant. Homeschoolers are allowed to be in nearly every extracurricular activity at high schools in almost all states now. That includes sports, band, orchestra, choir etc...and if those aren't options, my sister was in FIU's orchestra starting when she was a Junior in high school. The fact that most homeschoolers finish school at around 12:00pm gives them that much more time to "be social".

Also please tell me where you get your 99% from, I am guessing you just pulled it out of the air.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Home_school#Motivatio ...Not the best source but at least it's a source.

It is nice to see teachers who embrace technical advances. Wikipedia can be used for a lot of good and is now more reliable then most books. It is always getting updated and it sources are listed at the bottom of every page. I really like what the professor did here.
