techcrunch.com — A startup called Presto has launched a new service aimed at people who don?t have Internet access, but want to be able to receive emails and photos from loved ones. It combines a special printer produced by Hewlett Packard with a web service that sends data to the printer over a normal phone line - no need for internet access or a computer.

I love it, a device for people who are too lazy and self-involved to take the time to call grandma. I'll take four.

I swear if they made that their slogan they'd be the biggest success ever.

I wonder if they will start suing fax machine makers for creating their product without getting a license to do so from them?

grandma #1, 76 years old: , my grandpa "continuously upgrades his computer, completely wiping out our email". traslation>> every time they change the connection company like this, dial up>dsl>back to dial up>juno>aol>dsl, etc, etc, they keep losing the "provided email"...I keep trying to get her on a web based email like gmail or yahoo, etc. but she really has trouble with the interface. I am not the world's most patient teacher, and even tried to set up skype on her pc, but it was mysteriously erased the next day. grandma#2. this woman was an office manager for 22 years. I bought her a PC a few years ago and tried desperately to get her going on it. she claimed that she could not "type" on it. I was absolutely beside myself with that. Once we figured out the keyboard situation, (I always thought that qwerty has been around a long time, :[ ) the mouse was another few sessions. she, like my other one also could not get past the interfacing issue, and could not in any way grasp what is part of "the computer" vs. "the internet" kinds of concepts. lesson for me: just pick up the phone and call them.

How about hand writing a letter to them? Printing out the pictures and put it in an envelope with the letter, and then sending it to them? They'll appreciate it more, and can hang up the picture, without having to cut it out of the printout!

It is possible to Fax using a computer, I do it regularly, and it works fine for me.
