consumerist.com— Want to drive a telemarketer crazy and amuse yourself at the same time? Here's an example of how to do it.

If it's a human and I'm by the computer, I say "hold on a moment," turn up the speaker and rick roll them. If it's a machine (the ones I get don't start talking until you make a loud enough noise) I quietly set the phone down until it hangs up on its own. I don't know, but I hope it ties up more system resources somehow that way.
Absolutely true. I did Market Research after my freshman year of college. Not quite telemarketing, but almost just as bad. If a customer politely told me to take there name off the list, I would.Of course if someone was a dick, I would just keep scheduling callbacks to there house. But when I say someone was a dick, I don't necessarily mean playing a prank on me or something. I always enjoyed some creative thinking from the people I call, makes it easier to get through the night.
I've done something similar to telemarketers. my favorite is to ask what do i get when some calls wanting to survey me. When they say nothing i say my time is more important than that and i hang up. When the police association calls i just hang up...yeh i'm going to give you more money to harass people...f**k you. I never think to or have a recorder handy when i used to get telemarketers...luckily i no longer have this problem because i no longer have a land line.
You can ask the telemarker to HOLD, and just leave the phone off the hook and never return. Or, another method I've seen is to keep interupting to, say, 'answer the door' or something, and then come back and pretend you can't remember anything they've said and make them repeat it! Do this over and over until their head explodes!
Article doesn't even cite a source. Don't be too dependent on wikipedia, otherwise the "African elephant is a blood thirsty, carnivore that devores children" edit which was posted and distributed for a joke on Colbert Report, in the IT world, its LAN line, ask any network pro, "Land Line" only descirbes a phone that connects to a LAN network through a phone line.
actualy telemarketers are allowed to make one "oops" call after they've been asked to remove that person from the list. if they make a third call then they can be sued

It's hard with jehovah's witnesses because it happens face to face. I've tried and the most I can muster up is "I'm not interested".
