identi.ca doesn't have the same features as Pownce, it's more like Twitter. Pownce can do a lot of things that Twitter and identi.ca can't. And if it's being shut down anyway, then what do they have to lose?identi.ca uses an open source microblogging tool called laconi.ca, and unless that has a lot of features that identi.ca simply doesn't use, then it won't replace Pownce. By having the code for Pownce open sourced, anyone who wants to can create something that replicates the functionality of Pownce.
