at one of those exotic car rental places.

A 996 is surprising affordable (as far as 911s go) because purists hate them:

Validity of Visa: The validity of a Chinese visa can be 3 to 24 months depending on the type of visa requested. A single entry Chinese visa is usually valid for 3 months from the date of issue; A double entry visa is valid for 6 months, and a multiple entry visa can be valid for 6, 12 or 24 months. A Chinese visa holder must enter China before the expiration date of the visa. Chinese visa holders must not stay beyond the specified date without extending their visas. Otherwise, they could be subject to stiff penalties.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Hybrid cars are s**t! they may look good, but they are slower than molasses and less fun than suicide,
jeffwmartinJul 29, 2010
500-horsepower, 3.2-second 0-60 mph, 198 mph top speed
Yea, that's as slow as molasses flowing uphill in January
kingbpdJul 29, 2010
500-horsepower, 78-mpg, 9,200-rpm 3.4-liter V-8 hybrid all-wheel-drive sports car capable of 3.2-second 0-60 mph, 198 mph top speed, 16-mile all-electric range.
Pretty sure this car will be faster than molasses and more fun than suicide.

One of my goals in life is to buy a Porsche.
jayskullsJul 29, 2010
But can it play crisis?
socalcoveJul 29, 2010
Not only can it play Crysis, it will show the trailers to Crysis, 4.
In full maxed settings, at 1024 x 768 ;)

You guys are doing it wrong.
smacksawJul 29, 2010
Hopefully Porsche will have different modes to disable either mode to suit driving conditions.
While being lightweight has always been the goal of Porsche, the knock has been the F/R bias where read/mid engined cars are a bit heavy in the back and less predictable in turns.
It doesn't matter where those batteries go, but if they make it a 50/50 split and get them as low to the ground as possible? That's a weight addition that makes sense.
jmorganthallJul 29, 2010
"the knock has been the F/R bias where rear/mid engined cars are a bit heavy in the back and less predictable in turns."
Strongly disagree. While rear-engined Carreras certainly take some time to get used to driving hard through sharp corners, the mid-engine Cayman is unbelievably well behaved, not to mention nearly perfectly balanced.
Moral of the story: Don't lump rear-engine and mid-engine Porsches in the same line-up. Driving characteristics are drastically different.
netlugerJul 29, 2010
Don't get me wrong, I really really want & that love that f'n car but, I will not be at all impressed until they figure out how to build & sell me one for under 25 thousand & if you think that is an unreasonable goal, you are probably some wealthy elitist @sshole that probably doesn't deserve a Porsche 914 either. Why doesn't Rolex make 10 dollar watches? Why doesn't Versace make 100 dollar suits? Because people pay for quality, you can't afford it, buy something else
ryanjamiesonJul 29, 2010
If you could make it for $25K, then Ford would do it. But for the combination of high-precision and high-tech components that make those stats for this car possible, you're going to be paying top dollar. They didn't slap this together in Hans' basement with some spare parts from a couple of old 911s, after all.
