articles.sun-sentinel.com — Many people are reacting to the economy not by resolving to save more, but by no longer actively planning for retirement. "We are clearly facing a retirement crisis - one that will continue to grow as younger workers age," said Alicia Munnell, director of the Center for Retirement Research at Boston College.

So what if people don't have discipline, it should be their own responsibility to save money, and if they don't, then let them suffer the consequences. That is how people learn to be reasonable adults.

The economy got f**ked because of the crazy cost of home ownership. The housing price bubble should not have been allowed to happen, there should have been more land made avaailable for housing development. I know in the bay area there is plenty of land that houses could have been built on .. but then for whatever reasons no homes were allowed to be built there. And even if land was not available high rises should have been approved. There is no reason why the price of homes should have been allowed to skyrocket the way it did. And now the problem is being made worse by banks that are refusing to sell homes they gained via foreclosure just so that they can restrict market supply. Perfectly good homes are not being made available to the market, thereby causing an artificial. hike in prices .. which is inevitably not sustainable. If there is anything that will lead to economic collapse and social deterioration it's going to be the collapse in housing.

@curtisagYou're damn right. The baby boomer generation is BY FAR the greediest, "it's all about me" generation there ever was. They've developed the attitude that they're going to take and horde everything they can from real estate to jobs (and everything in between) at the expense of even their own children and grandchildren. They've made it damn near an impossibility for me to provide the lifestyle I had growing up for my own children. I, personally, have struggled for the last twenty years to build the little bit I have now. Going by what I've personally witnessed, most manifestations of this general baby boomer attitude have come about in the last twenty years. The world has really gone to s**t since around...1990!They've basically forsaken the safety, comfort and general happiness of future generations for years to come...all to provide over the top comfort for themselves and to satisfy their own egos. With very few exceptions, I say f**k the baby boomer generation.Signed,A Gen Xer about to turn 40

"Force retirement on those over 55."That's hilarious. You just found a new and exciting way to create a whole new large group of homeless people. The mentality here is frightening. Let me see if I get this right. If you've lived X years and still want\need to work you're basically selfish and just need to curl up in some dumpster and die. And these are the same people who ridicule the thought of the "Death Panels" in the health care legislation.

We surely can't pull the plug on it now, people have paid into it, they've planned on receiving it and they're rightfully expecting it.
