I can tell you that the AACS DRM present in both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD actually does communicate a unique identifier back to a server if the device is network connected. They are able to prune the key tree one key at a time, if necessary, using both this network method and using the static key revocation table that exists on every Blu-Ray/HD-DVD disc. These are updated to account for pirates who happen to compromise the security of the device in order to play back unlicensed content.Don't get me wrong - I hate DRM. But this is the reality and it may actually be possible to cross-reference the serial number of the device with its unique device keys. Note that this could also be done using the HDMI keys or the BD+ protection keys.
Its not as if Sony is going to STOP making these systems after the opening day and up until Christmas. With the supply made up until Christmas and soooo many people buying this thing ONLY to sell on ebay I wonder if the market will just end up saturated. There just HAS to be some point where you have more PS3's on eBay than idiots in the world willing to pay several grand for it.
People are complaining about too many PS3 stories, but we wouldn't here about all this, this fast without DIGG, I for one fell entrained and informed.Thank you Mr. Rose.
But then, real gamers looking for the latest consoles available in town will probably pick them up way before the manager receive its second shipment. So the real gamers and the managers will win at the end. End of story. What a beautiful ending.Ok, I know I'm dreaming, optimistic and stuff...
They're (midnight launches) already illegal here in Quebec, so the PS3 didn't go onsale anywhere in the province last night. However, stores were allowed to open an hour early, so they opened at 8AM EST instead of the usual 9 or 10.It has something to do with labour laws, I think. I'm not sure how exactly it works. There are stores that are normally open until or past midnight; dépaneurs (corners stores like 711), drug stores (uniprix, shoppers drug mart, jean-coutu, similar to CVS) in some places, video rental stores (I think?).I know that there are government restrictions on how many employees a supermarket can have in a store after a certain time (Max 4 employees store-wide after 8PM I think, but the government is going to change this since everyone hates it), so it's probably something similar. That said, I've identified two likely targets for launch day purchasing in my part of Montreal... Either the local Wal-Mart (72 units not pre-ordered, opens at 8am), or the local EB boutique (in a shopping mall, 30 units not pre-ordered, opens at 10am). I'm leaning towards the EB boutique, as I'd expect there will be a lower person-to-wii ratio compared to wallmart.
