Umm I'm not an "internet SEO / advertising / tubes" guru, but there's this website called google.com and they seem to base a substantial portion of their business on marketing / demographics / advertising. So I'm assuming there's at least a few pennies to be made out there in proportion to volume.

Exactly. If I want to compensate an artist, I'll go to a concert and buy a t-shirt. Buying the album in a store nets them almost nothing. A single shirt at a concert brings them more money than you buying their entire discography in the store.
