engadget.com — We got a brief shred of playtime back at E3 this year, but Sony was kind enough to invite us down to SCEA HQ in beautiful Foster City for a little one on one with some PlayStation3s and execs. We shot some video (yes, us) and have a writeup of the hardware, so check it out!

I'm going to have a not so popular opinion, I suppose. The first thing that entered my mind when I saw it was "cheap". It looks like a very big cheap plastic case.It does indeed look like something from the 90's, and even back then it would have looked like it was trying too hard to look cool.Or perhaps, deep down inside, it just really wants to be a microwave? Beep!...but what do I know?/shrug~Mysk

I remember reading somewhere that Blu-Ray isnt backwards compatible with any other format. I never really believed that would be the case, otherwise thats one major foobar.

My guess is that the top is rounded to discourage people from stacking anything on it. This makes it easier to ventilate the system, as well as making it less likely to be broken by some idiot putting their 50 lb. receiver on top of it.

Sexay. If that HDD is removable that would indeed be awesome. Can't wait to get one.
