Try running Firefox in safe mode. It's right there in the start menu, or use the "-safe-mode" switch from a command line. It turns off all extensions for that session.
I'm not quite sure how they could improve on that, it's pretty good as it is. One thing that might be cool would be an extension repository though, like APT in Debian
Most of these problems are cause by bad code on the specific sites. It has nothing to do with the browser (in most cases). If a website does not conform to the web standards it should be re-developed.
Same way you save passwordsyou place them where when you want to go on a openid enabled pagebam its there and if you want to choose a paticuler id you can choose from a list created in the browser
