Ibdinh yes it isn't hard to prove the shot order. If you think that the only way to stop a threat is to shoot them until they are no longer breathing then you should go take a firearm training class and talk to a lawyer like I said.If I shoot out your kneecaps and you are squirming on the ground in pain you are no longer an immediate threat to my life. If you arm yourself or somehow stand up and come toward me then you become a threat again and I will shoot you some more. (I am not advocating shooting for the legs. You shoot 2 in the chest 1 in the head or you use the zipper method starting at the abdomen and shooting upwards until they stop. This is just an example). If someone grabbed some stuff from my house and is running away they are not a threat. I can point my gun at them and if they turn around and come at me I will shoot. If they continue to run away they are not an immediate threat and you let them go.If you pull a gun and the person stops everything they are doing and you are in control of the situation there is no need to shoot. You have the gun pointed at them so if they try anything you shoot them. If not then you don't need to shoot. You are right you shouldn't fire the gun unless the situation is potentially mortal but you should not keep firing until they are dead. If after 2 shots they are incapacitated that is all you need. There is no reason to shoot someone 14 more times while they lay on the ground after your first 2 shots took them down. From the comments I am guessing no one commenting here has ever taken a firearm self defense course and the only experience you have with firearms is games, television, or movies.

20 minutes, out in the rural areas where gun ownership is more common it'll take 45 minutes or more. And in some urban neighborhoods where the media second guesses every move an officer makes, it's easier for them to wait until after she's dead.

--An openly free and armed populace will inherently deter criminals. --Mate, the US is an openly free and armed populace. So, you're argument is clearly overstated, since this guy was not deterred. Oh, he was caught and made this woman's bitch, sure, but he was not deterred...and I'm sure he knows most adults can have guns in their homes.--What criminal is gonna rob a bank if they know there is the possibility of at least one other person in there who is armed. I think that is gonna make a lot of would be criminals thinks twice.--The FBI admits that, even with professional armed guards in banks, "it's not the answer in all cases and may even make a bad situation worse". [http://www.bankrate.com/brm/news/chk/20020607a.asp ... You really believe the situation would be made better by having amateurs in the mix? Dude, that's delusional.---There is a reason dictators and tyrants take away the guns, and its not to keep us safe.---Easy Trigger, no-one's taking your guns away - sadly you're rights are fully protected, without question, by the US Constitution. That, however, does not make your comments painfully misinformed.Oh, and, go Granny!!! This story's completely awesome.
