cinemablend.com — Given that the Pirates franchise was the only live-action property making any money for the studio, they could reach deep in their pockets and keep Depp on for #4, but they're also preparing to replace Captain Jack with a entirely new character if he refuses a fifth and sixth film.

Sequels are fine if they don't f**k them up.

I never understood the appeal of these movies.

And the stupid movie studios still can't remember how to be creative anymore.

They used to have a no sequel policy... ah, the good ol' days.

I loved all three. It's just cool to hate sequels in these forsaken tubes..

I'm a bit apprehensive about this. While I love Depp and will love any Captain Sparrow performance he does, part of the dynamic of his performance was the interaction and reaction of other characters. Mr and Mrs Turner are out of the picture - little Will is out guiding souls so he doesn't turn into Mr. tentacles or whatever, and Lizzy has a little boy and a sex life that only exists every ten years. Mr. Big bad East India Trading Company is dead, Davey Jones is dead, the original Jones crew are no longer monsters, Tia Dalma has been released into the waters to smite people with her womanly heathen god wrath. All we have is Barbosa and the rest of the pirate crew. What the hell are they going to do? I'm hoping for a prequel. A prequel would be fine - the original story would be left off where it's at, but perhaps we see a bit of Jack's story that all three movies hint at - the relationship between him and East India Trading company, his father and mother, Singapore Pirate King (forgot his name already), Will Turner Sr. and so on. It would be suitable for the franchise, and will help profits ride for another movie. Beyond that though, there is definitely no future.

I'm not asking for Oscars, just coherence. The plot of the third movie especially was just convoluted.
