When a website such as Digg gets really popular people realize that advertising on that site can be an major increase to traffic. On Digg people will bury the spam, but people still look at the "buried" comment. This means people are seeing the spammers link, which will get them traffic, which will get them the few cents that comes with someone clicking on an affiliate link on their s**tty site.1.
