torrentfreak.com — At the box-office the major movie studios are raking in record profits, but their continuing refusal to widely adopt online business opportunities are hindering progress. According to the head of the Blockbuster video chain, the movie industry’s greed is to blame for holding back innovation.

FTA:?Movie studios are still as arrogant as the music moguls were before digital downloads and piracy destroyed them. The only thing that?s protecting the movie studios (from more widespread illegal downloading) now is file size,? Uniacke added.More like ISP bandwidth is the limiting factor here in the USA. What happens when it takes 1 minute to download a movie instead of 10 minutes to go to Blockbuster?

Transformers one and two are the classic modern examples. Terrible movies, according to everyone who has watched them - and yet they made a ton of money even so though demographic targeting and marketing.

Piracy started because it was easy, and because people are too cheap to buy things. Don't kid yourself into thinking it started as a reaction to DRM. DRM was the industry's reaction to a piracy problem that had been around long before the internet, but which exploded when it became easy for the average Joe to take part in.

@FredYou're right, and that's somewhat my point, I don't wanna pay for stuff that sucks... so if it doesn't suck I'll pay for it.

Bulls**t. UNCHECKED greed is killing us all. As long as we include safeguards (re: Credit Default Swap fiasco), greed can still motivate a capitalist system without eating its own young.

No surprise here.

This is illogical. The movie industry knows what's coming down the pike when downloading a movie will be as simple as downloading an mp3 of a top 20 pop tune. Making money from producing a movie is not greed. It's their business and their livelihood. They have every right to make as much money as they desire from the movie. They can make bad business decisions, and when they do turn sour it's not because of so-called greed, it's just a bad decision. There's nothing wrong with making money and with having a business to do it.
