I wish they could go back to fanless designs like they used to have. The 40-pin ATA ports can be hooked to a compact flash adapter for a solid-state computer. (except for the fan)
This is great except for 3 drawbacks:1 - It's made by VIA, which means the 1GHz CPU will probably perform about as well as everyone else's 500MHz CPUs - yes I know it's teeny and low power but it's also low power, if you catch my drift...2 - the board alone is tiny - great stuff! If you add on the optional I/O board with the sound and USB headers it almost doubles in size. Kind makes a mockery of the whole 'really, really small' factor!3 - The Serial port is not on the board - it's on a fly lead. That's really not ideal for embedded use. There's a nice detailed overview of it here: http://www.mini-itx.com/reviews/pico-itx/
Windows-based routers are not entirely useless. In fact, there are many neat things you can do with a Windows-based network appliance that are quite neat.

Too underpowered for a nice mobo, let's try again next year to see if they make a better performance mobo.
