antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov — If you took a picture of the Sun at the same time each day, would it remain in the same position? The answer is no, and the shape traced out by the Sun over the course of a year is called an analemma. Here's a picture of it take over the course of a year.

According to theory of relativity, in particular, phy6uva is using the term precisely. The Earth is the object that is accelerating. ( towards the Sun ) The Sun is not accelerating away from the Earth, even relatively speaking. You should have at least a rudimentary understanding of a scientific theory before you use it to correct others.

I don't know whether or not you're ignorant, but APOD is a site that shows cool pictures of astronomical phenomena. It's more a collection of pictures that are really cool than a collection that attempts to "help understanding of the universe." Of course, if you take a picture of the sun when there is 5% of daylight left, to make it easier to visualize, it would show an almost straight horizontal line close to the horizon. The line wouldn't be perfectly straight because there is a different amount of daylight each day. ( except at the equator, where as you pointed out, it would be a straight line )The description of the article doesn't seem to me to be aimed at the ignorant. What is so "articificial" about the measurement? It is a measurement of the relative position of the Sun in the sky. Just because it's not done at the equator, doesn't make it artificial. In fact, it makes it a lot more interesting and a lot more appropriate for APOD.

Yes... And Digg apparently has no shortage of people who will piss and moan every single time something gets repeated. Give it a rest loser. Don't you have better things to do, than to troll Digg, looking for repeats that you can point out?
