"The Tivo HD have been in the vaporware department for too long."HD TiVo has been out for at least a year, but up until this unit, only worked on DirecTV. The only difference in the new Series 3 boxes is that they work with OTA and cable signals, and apparently allow you to plug in external drives as well.
I don't know Milo, but it seems their new deals w/ Apple, Sony, and Yahoo are keeping them ontop of their game just fine. I find your lack of faith disturbing...
"They had their chance to be THE PVR, but refused to not be so greedy and didn't work out deals to license their stuff to the cable companies."Umm... they did do a licensing deal w/ Comcast and one or two other smaller cable companies."a company that pushes unsolicited commercials to the box that YOU own. Tivo is a slave to the MPAA and they bowed down to Hollywood by forcing certain shows to be automatically deleted from your Tivo because of copyright laws."I've never been forced to watch a commercial. Are you talking about the bottom line on the main TiVo page where you can _optionally_ view a promotion?Let's see how the "Hollywood" flag gets used before we comment on it.
I don't recall Replay having dual tuner HD that could replace the cable company's box.I have a series 2 and the cable company's DVR for HD. The functionality on the cable company's box sucks and I will be getting a series 3 as soon as it hits the market.
"Even their largest customer DirectTV has now built their own box."That's because Rupert Murdoch owns it and TiVo is competition to his lower cost and more controllable PVR platform(s). Here in the UK, Mr. Murdoch owns Sky and it's their PVR (Sky+) that has been such a major block to TiVo. Murdoch essentially dominates the market now with his inferior product, as he saturates Sky channels with adverts for it, to such an extent that the UK public only know the word 'Sky+' when it comes to defining what a PVR is.TiVo tried marketing in the UK, but they forgot that marketing actually involves telling people about it ;-). Though it has a thriving community based on the series 1 boxes they did release, it's a small community and TiVo is essentially no more in the UK and never will be with Murdoch around.Wouldn't be surprised if he's using the same platform in the US now. It's crap, but it's popular over here which is such a shame as TiVo is vastly superior but we can't get integrated boxes thanks to Murdoch's domination and his refusal to allow anyone to build their own boxes that don't use Sky's own software.
